Caroline Shotton - Bailey Arts
Caroline Shotton - As a child Caroline lived on the outskirts of London, which meant she benifited from being within easy reach of London Galleries but also open countryside and having been painting for as long as she can remember, both have provided a source of immense inspiration. As an only child Caroline had the freedom to immerse herself into her work, receiving great encouragement and guidence from her grandmother and throughout her school years strived for perfection taking early influence from the old masters after becoming fasinated by their realism. Studying at Central Saint Martins, Caroline's eyes were opened to new ideas and techniques, captivated by both surrealism and impressionism, both of which can be seen combined in her work today. Workin as a freelance artist after leaving college, Caroline undertook bespoke commissions from businesses in the commercial sector throughout the country, from large abstracts to intricute murals, Caroline was often asked to produce styles and subject matter that she would never have dreamt of had she been alone in her studio. After the birth of her son, Shotton decided to concentrate on her gallery career, "It has been lovely painting without a strict brief and my work has developed immeasurably, incorporating different aspects from my past commissions with the freedom to choose my own direction"
