Jack Vettriano - Bailey Arts Jack Vettriano - Born 1951 in Fife, Scotland, Jack Vettriano left school aged sixteen and went on to become a mining engineer. As a gift for his twenty first birthday he was given a set of watercolour paints by a girlfriend and from then on he spent his spare time teaching himself to paint. In 1989 Vettriano decided to submit two paintings into the "Royal Scottish Academy" annual exhibition. Both paintings were accepted and were sold on the first day. Twelve months on and Vettriano decided to enter three paintings but this time into the prestigious "Summer Exhibition" at Londons "Royal Academy", these were greeted in an equally enthusiastic reaction and Jack Vettriano's new life as an artist had began. Interest over the last twenty years in Vettriano's work has grown consistantly. There have been sold out solo exhibitions in New York, Edinburgh, London and even Hong Kong. 2004 was an exceptional year for Jack, his most famous painting "The Singing Butler" was sold at Sotherbys for close to £750,000, he was also the subject of a south bank show documantary entitled "Jack Vettriano : The Peoples Painter" and on top of that he was awarded an OBE for services to the Visual Arts. Jack Vettriano now divides his time between his homes in Fife, London and Nice.
